Drying Behaviour of 50 mm Thick Turkey Oak Lumber
نویسندگان
چکیده
Turkey oak lumber is difficult to dry, being prone cracks even at low temperatures. The main objective of the research was test different drying conditions in order establish whether air-drying or kiln-drying from a green state more suitable; if width had an influence on quality; prior steaming positive effect upon time and end could be avoided by protecting board ends; what most appropriate were, with conventional drying. results recommend as better alternative than terms both quality, but very mild must applied. Wide parts cracked when air-dried kiln-dried. All defect-free dried accurately, no deterioration. Steaming steamed part cracked. protection boards efficient only case kiln-drying.

Programmable Control for Lumber Drying in Chambers
A programmable control system for the convective drying of lumber in chambers is developed, based on specially designed drying algorithm, which allows computing the set-point values for the temperature and the relative humidity of the heating and drying air as a function of the wood type, wood thickness and the current average value for the wood moisture content and wood temperature. The specia...
متن کاملEpicormic Branches and Lumber Grade of Bottomland Oak
Epicormic branches can be a serious problem in management of hardwood forests for high-quality sawtimber production. In one study in central Alabama, defects caused by epicormic branches that developed following a partial cutting resulted in a 13 percent reduction in the value of willow oak lumber. Production of epicormic branches along the boles of hardwood trees is affected by species, stress...
متن کاملPrinciples and Devices for Controlling the Drying of Lumber
It seems like almost everyone either has a new controller for their lumberdrying operations or is thinking about getting one. In the July 1988 Forest Industries, in "A shoppers' guide to electronic kiln controls," I described some of the benefits likely to accrue to users of these machines. Those benefits include improved grade recovery, greater kiln productivity, better use of limited steam su...
متن کاملEpicormic Branches Affect Lumber Grade and Value in Willow Oak
A case study was conducted in a 50-yr-old bottomland oak stand in central Alabama to investigate the relationship between epicormic branches and lumber grade and value in willow oak (Quercus phellos L.). The stand had been thinnedfrom below 7-10 yr earlier, resulting in a wide variety of epicormic branch conditions on the residual trees. A sample of 41 willow oak trees was selected before the s...
متن کاملDrying Behaviour of Second-growth Nothofagus Alpina
Wood drying quality and transversal permeability of Chilean second-growth Nothofagus alpina (raulí) were evaluated. Two charges of raulí sawnwood were dried in a experimental kiln. One of the charges was prepared with sawnwood from Pinto the second one was prepared with sawnwood from Collipulli. The transverse permeability to air of the material after drying was determined. The results showed t...
